Although the basket pattern is technically representative of an object it is nevertheless commonly found in Amish quilts. It is also very common in Mennonite quilts - which would use colors such as those shown at left. The basket occurs in many variations, but this one is very traditional : the Cakestand.

Ruby had a great time setting these blocks at various angles, which adds whimsy and interest to the simple pattern. However they could all be turned in the same direction for an attractive, simpler and more uniform appearance.

This pattern is intermediate: it is fun and simple, but basic knowledge of quilting and ability to sew an accurate and consistent 1 / 4 " seam allowance is necessary, as always.
