The earliest surviving and best examples of true Amish quilts are quite austere and plain. This stark simplicity is what gives them their beauty. Quilts like this are embellished with lots of fine hand quilting. This is a large bed quilt - meant to make a big impression!

We have done this one up in two color schemes, one using black, and the other a lot of light and dark blue. This is another pattern which looks great with plain color and a lot of fine quilting in the large spaces. Pattern is by Green Sheep Designs.

This pattern is easy intermediate: it is fun and simple, but basic knowledge of quilting and ability to sew an accurate and consistent 1 / 4 " seam allowance is necessary, and some ability to work well with triangle pieces will help.
